The Green House Effect

I think that the Green House Effect is perfect Even though Green House gases make up 1 percent of the world's atmosphere it is still effective, this effect regulates our tempretures. effect The Green House effect is half good because it absorbs infrared rays that comes from the atmosphere. Water vapor, carbon dioxide, ozone and methane, which makes it slower for it to escape from the atmosphere. Without the Green House Effect the Earth will be 54 degrees colder in farenheight, way too cold to hold out ecosystem together. This effect is also good because without it, the Earth would be hit with many unwanted things from space.

Popcorn Assignment

Radiation is the only way heat can move through relative empty space. Other ways of heat needs molecules to move like air or water to move the heat. Most of the radiation comes from the Sun, good absorbers of radiation are good radiators also. The door to a microwave is made especially made so that it can reflect micro waves so that they cant escape. Metal surfaces reflect microwaves and the little mesh holes lets you look at your food while its cooking kind of like a mirror for microwaves. Currents that are electric flow through the mesh made of metal as the microwaves hit it and those currents bounce off and reflect in a different direction. Since the holes aren't big enough to interrupt the current flow, the mesh reflects the microwaves as good as a solid metal surface would.

I learned a lot from this interactive website, a few things I learned about are carbon dioxide, oxygen, and the ozone layer. Here are a few facts i learned from this website. Carbon Dioxide makes up 1% of the Earth's atmosphere. This substance retains heat from the sun that escapes to the Earth. Solar energy bounces from the Earth to the Green House gasses and back down to Earth. Carbon Dioxide comes from volcanoes, automobile exhausts, power plants, decaying plants and animals and factories. When we burn fuel it lets out carbon dioxide. Mars and Venus have a lot of carbon dioxide on their planets.
4.6 billion years ago, the Earth had no oxygen, the Sun's ultraviolet radiation broke down molecules of water. The oxygen now comes from photosynthesis, meaning green plants use sun energy to change carbon dioxide and water into sugar and oxygen.
Oxygen gas accumulated in our atmosphere. Ozone (3 atoms of oxygen) was made in the stratosphere. Ozone is a shield to the Sun's ultraviolet radiation, living things could go from ocean to land. Chemical in aerosol sprays and refrigerants thinned ozone in the stratosphere in 1980. Mostly in Antarctica. UV radiation could go to Earth because of this. When these chemicals was banned, the hole grew no more. The hole is not expected to close in 40 to 50 years. Surface ozone can burn lungs of people and kids are the mostly affected by this.

The Collapsing Can

The water boiled in the can, when the water touched the front of the can it sizzled because of the heat of the can. As the can indented little by little, steam came out, the molecules in the water was vibrating because the water was bubbling violently. When there was enough steam we removed the can from the heat and dumped it in a bowl of iced water and it collapsed immediately. The vapor from the hot water pushed all the air out the can. When the can was filled with vapor, we cooled it fast by putting it in the water. Making the can cool caused the vapor in the can to condense leaving the can with nothing. When the can had nothing inside, the air pressure outside the can made it collapse.

Frog Dissection

In class we dissected a bull frog, we had to make a slit in the shape of the letter T. After pulling back the muscles and skins we saw the liver and intestines and other organs. We noticed that the heart was a small gray circle at the top which looked very small compared to it's livers. After we located every organ we were suppose to we had to answer questions and locate organs on a picture. This dissection was very interesting to me, at first I was not comfortable with the whole idea that there is a dead animal with guts sticking out in front of me but after a while I got used to it. The idea of killing frogs just to look at how they function was not appealing to me because we're hurting other animals for our benefits. Others may say it is the best way to learn but I beg to differ, if there were a different species out there would you want them killing you just to look at your body? This way of learning is very easy for me because it is a hands-on activity but i dint agree with the fact of killing animals.

Trip to the Aquarium

On Friday the 7th of May, my unit went to the aquarium. We went into the shark tunnel where we saw sharks and we saw many other animals. There were many different varieties of fishes and birds. Hippos were also displayed there to the open and I learned that the fishes and birds clean the bad bacteria and parasites of the hippos. The jelly fishes were pretty spectacular because some of them were glowing up when the area they were in were very dark. There was this other kind of jelly fish that had these long tentacles and flowed like the wind. A giant spider looking animal was also there which was called the spider crab. All in all, this aquarium was very fun and exciting. If you ever want to go on a trip, it should surely be the aquarium.

Snow Day Extra Credit Blog

A snowicane is a very powerful and dangerous storm that can cause destruction's.

A snowicane is just like a regular hurricane except with snow instead of rain. A hurricane is formed by warm moisture in the air which flows into a low pressure area. As the air travels higher and condenses into clouds, more warm air is pulled in from the ocean. The air then moves counter clockwise in a spiral motion. These clouds turn into clusters and thunderstorms which is called a hurricane. Basically, a snowicane is the same thing but instead of rain, there is snow. When snow is falling very hard, it picks up wind which causes a snow storm. A snowicane is a REALLY bad snow storm which can turn into something fatal.

When winds are very strong and there is already moisture in the air, the moisture tends to move along with the winds causing a strong storm. The winds for this snowicane went up to 70 mph. The movement of this snowicane all started out as just a day of snow in Texas, moving east to New Jersey. Hitting almost every state in it's path, this hurricane of snow has caused the most amount of damage any other snow storm has caused in the state of New Jersey. With all the snow coming in now, all of it will have to eventually melt which can cause a lot of water to come in. This snowicane will affect the community drastically. People will have to shovel they're sidewalks and driveways, there may be cancellations of flights and schools. You may not even be able to get out of your driveway. Plan's are cancelled because of the snow and schools are cancelled so there will be days taken out of important holiday vacations. Thanks to the snow, this is what has happened. Precipitation has come and gone, but this time it has come. Snow is still on it's way and there is still more to come for our state of New Jersey.

Bacteria in Poo Found in Sosa

Virginia, Roanoke is where scientists find out that infectious bacteria is now inside the soda fountains at local. These bacteria is found in your poo and is called coliform bacteria. According to the scientists, this bacteria is coming from un-sanitized hands of workers who work at the place where the sanitation faults are coming from. Study shows that the soda fountain has passed the E. Coli test. The workers at these places need to wash their hands and find a way to not spread germs. Employers need to hire people who are clean and decent or at least promise to be clean. Costumers can get hospitalized or even get killed from these diseases, and who would of thought that it would be because of one person's sanitation problems.
